Retreat Overview

SOMA is Kanasu's most mind-focused programme - a dedicated period of mental calm and emotional rebalancing through the hottest season of the year. The programme draws on Pitta-pacifying Ayurvedic principles: cooling oils, calming practices, and a carefully designed schedule that minimises stimulation while creating space for deep inner rest.

Shirodhara - the signature Kerala practice of a steady stream of lukewarm medicated oil on the forehead - is a cornerstone of SOMA, traditionally regarded as one of the most profoundly calming Ayurvedic practices available. It is complemented by Thala Pothichil (a cooling herbal paste applied to the head), Thakradhara (medicated buttermilk stream), and Siro Abhyangam.

Yoga during SOMA is gentle and restorative: Yoga Nidra, SMET (Self-Management of Excessive Tension), and guided meditation replace vigorous asana as the primary practice. Music therapy using selected Indian classical ragas forms part of the evening routine, creating a container of sound and stillness that many guests find deeply supportive.
