Thakra Dhara

About This Therapy

Thakra Dhara is a refreshing and deeply cooling Ayurvedic treatment in which a continuous stream of medicated buttermilk (takra) is poured onto the forehead. Unlike Sirodhara which uses warm oil, Thakra Dhara uses medicated buttermilk with a distinctly cooling and anti-inflammatory action, making it especially beneficial for Pitta-related skin conditions of the scalp and head. It is one of the most effective Ayurvedic treatments for psoriasis and eczema of the scalp.

How It Works

The medicated buttermilk is prepared by processing buttermilk with Ayurvedic herbs such as amalaki, bhringaraj, or other cooling botanicals depending on your condition. This preparation is then poured in a gentle, continuous stream onto the forehead and scalp using a suspended vessel, similar to the Sirodhara technique. The session creates a deeply cooling, soothing sensation. The scalp is gently massaged as the buttermilk flows.
